What is Social Networking?

Many of us have heard about Social networking but are not quite sure what it means.

Definition
A social network is a map of all the relevant ties between the nodes being studied. The network can also be used to determine the social capital of individual actors. These concepts are often displayed in a social network diagram, where nodes are the points and ties are the lines.

In other words, Social Networking is the grouping of individuals into specific groups, like small rural communities or a neighbourhood subdivision. Websites are commonly used in online social networking and these websites are known as social sites. Examples of social networking websites are Facebook, Friendster, LinkedIn, Plaxo etc.

One of the fantastic thing about social networking is you could develop an online friendship with individual or groups in different countries. There is no barriers of make new friends and you might learn and share new things and cultures with your new friends.

As an online marketer, you can also utilize social networking and consider it as a platform to announce yourself and your internet business. Through social networking, you can easily meet other like-minded people sharing the same interests and join groups.

Things I Have Learnt For The Last Three Month

I have joined Internet Marketing for three months. Can you imagine three months ago I’m totally inactive in internet?! I just use internet for office works and seldom check emails. Although I have MSN and Friendster accounts, I seldom participate in it.

I came across some ads about Make Money Online when I surf net one day. I started to wonder What is happening in this world? Why there are people earning money through internet but I’m totally don’t know about it? I tried to look for more information about this and slowly I came to the word of “Internet Marketing”.

Without much thinking, I decided to get myself in internet marketing. The first thing I learn is “Mindset” and the right mindset is the main key of success. There are three secrets of success in IM: -

  • Right Mindset
  • Right Attitude
  • Right System

I spent time to adjust my mindset and attitude towards IM and I get a mentor because modeling is a good and fastest way to success. If you read my blog post, you should know that my mentor is Teddy Wu and I’ve joined his Apprentice Program recently.

For the last three months, I have learnt about: -

  • Internet Marketing
  • Affiliate Marketing
  • Search Engine Optimization
  • Social Media Marketing
  • Google – Adwords, Adsense etc
  • Article Marketing

I also never think of I could have my own domain website and get one for my lovely Baby Moon.  I must admit that the power and will of learn is so strong that I set up the blog by myself doing step by step without any IT background.

I’m not the legend of get quick rich in three months time but I always believe in “There is a Will, There is a Way!”. I believe I can succeed one day if I don’t give up. And now I think I already have some achievements in term of my life because of my willingness to change. The achievements just couldn’t be measured by money. =)

Will the AIG Crisis affect Singapore?

The hottest news in town for these two days must be the AIG Crisis. The AIG subsidiary, American International Assurance (AIA) has also been affected. About 100 nervous customers on Tuesday waited outside AIA offices in Singapore to check the status of their policies. Even Monetary Authority of Singapore said in a statement that AIA has sufficient assets to meet all its liabilities to policyholders but some still wish to cancel their policies.
According to report, AIG Singapore founded in 1931 has more than 2 million policies in force. The possibility of AIG bankruptcy has brought to the fear of all the people in town and all of us are monitoring the situation closely.
The collapse of Lehman Brothers and the AIG Crisis has created new uncertainties for Singapore’s economy. Singapore ecomonic growth forecast also has been revised from 5-6 percent to 4-5 percent this year.
I strongly feel the impact on the U.S. financial turmoil towards the whole environment. I am also worrying whether my insurance policies with AIA life insurance unit, were safe. Life becomes harder and I think you can feel it in some ways too. If you were to ask me what can I do for this moment, I would tell you I won’t sit there doing nothing but will work harder to make more money online to secure my future.

How to Make Money with Google Adsense

If you are helping Google to advertise at your website, you must already know what is Google Adsense. In case you are just very new to internet, Google Adsense is the sharing of the revenue that Google earns from Adwords by placing the ads on your site. It is a make money program that give you advertising revenue with a minimal investment in time and zero sign up cost.

To start earning with google adsense, you might need to start a website for Adsense. You can choose to sign up a free hosting accounts (eg. blogger, wordpress.com) or self-hosted website. However, before you begin your site, choose a topic that you interested in so that you will not run out of content after several weeks.

It is advisable to register at Google Adsense after you generate some contents for your website. Google might evaluate your site before they approve your adsense application. Adsense has four main type of products, that are Adsense for Content, for Search, for Feeds and for Mobile Content. Choose the most relevant product to match your site content and the chance of people click on it will be higher when they need the information.

Some tips of Success with Adsense:

  • Keep your website focused on a theme
  • Write a new page every day
  • Find your keywords – increase traffic with SEO
  • Improved your keywords
  • Increase the number of ads, but not too much
  • Always preview google ads
  • Don’t do the “what not to do” things stated in Adsense Program policies

Make money with Google Adsense is easy but you must have patience and think long term. You need time to build the traffic and to optimize it. Try to analise what your visitors need, provide value and good experience to visitors.

How to install Subscribe to Comments for WordPress?

If you are using self-hosted wordpress, you might need this Subscribe to Comments plugin. This plugin is a robust plugin that enables your commenters to sign up for email notification of subsequent entries. So, why we need this feature? This is actually a good way to lead your commenters come back to you when there are other new comments added in for the particular post they commented before.

The steps for installing Subscribe to Comments Plugin:

  1. Login to WordPress official download website or you can click here
  2. Download the plugin
  3. Upload the file to your WordPress Plugin foler.
  4. Login to your WordPress admin and click the Plugins
  5. From the Plugins, activate the Subscribe to Comments
  6. Don’t forget the last step – setting for the plugin (enter your name and email address)

Your Subscribe to Comments is ready for use. You can check your website and the sentence of “Notify me of followup comments via email” appears at the bottom of the comment form.

How to get WordPress API Key For the Akismet Plugin?

Recently I receive lots of spam mails for my blog. So I decided to use the Akismet Plugin. I always think that I just need to activate the plugin and all the things consider done. Well, when I really take a look into it, I found that they need a WordPress API Key to activate the Akismet Plugin.

I try to recall whether I have the WordPress API Key, and the answer is NO. So I need to get the API Key and obtaining the API Key for a self-hosted WordPress blog is quite confusing because I need to register an account at WordPress.com.

Why should I need to register at WordPress.com since I already have self-hosted blog at WordPress.org ?And the answer is I don’t need the API Key for WordPress.org but some plugins require it for the activation. If the plugin require the API Key, I will know when I activate it. In this case, the Akismet Plugin require the WordPress API Key.

Here are the steps to obtain the WordPress API Key:

  1. The dashboard will show that your Akismet Plugin is not activated.
  2. You will see “Please enter an API Key or (Get Your Key)“
  3. Click the “Get Your Key”
  4. You will be directed to WordPress.com sign up page.
  5. Click the “Sign Up” tab at the right top corner and follow the instruction. (Please take note that they require a different username and email address and it should not be the same as self-hosted WordPress account)
  6. Click the “Just a username, please” and now your account is active.
  7. Check your email and click on the activated link.
  8. You will receive your WordPress API Key by email within a few minutes.

If you are not receive the API Key through email, you can always login to the WordPress.com and from the Global Dashboard, you should see your API Key number. Please do not share the API Key because it’s like a password.
