One of the main reasons people don’t start their own Network Marketing business is because they think it will require a large investment, just like starting a traditional business.

A lot of people fall for this myth, but it’s simply not true. Those same people also tend to assume that setting up a business requires a huge amount of risk, but that’s not true either.

The real truth is that it’s largely up to you how much money you want to invest in any network marketing business.

If you can’t afford to invest a single dime in your new venture, that’s perfectly fine. If you want to invest $100 a month in advertising and promotion, that’s fine too. This is your business, and you can build it at whatever pace you like. You just need to look at where you are, look at where you want to be, and come up with a sustainable plan.

You could just re-invest all your profits for the first year to build momentum. No matter what you choose to spend, you can make this business work for you.

One thing you need to remember is that you shouldn’t do anything just because someone else tells you that you should. Sure, they might be getting some leads from a certain kind of promotion, but every penny you spend is optional.

This is one of the big pitfalls for new network marketers – an already successful person tells them to buy some kind of tool or marketing method, and they think they have to. But now you know better!

I’ll put this myth to rest once and for all: Every network marketing business will have a joining fee which gets you the start-up package and company training, but after that it’s up to you how much money you invest in business tools and marketing each month!

The book Magnetic Sponsoring is a guide that Mike has published in which he shares what he’s learned through his years of experience. This book doesn’t spell everything out in the deepest of detail, but it certainly gives the reader a vast amount of valuable and very usable information and food for thought.

The book looks at network marketing from a few previously unexplored angles, and offers a refreshing way to think about the business. A recurring theme is “sellucation” – Mike Dillard’s word for selling through education. When you consider this concept, it makes a huge amount of sense and is something that is very easy to implement in a new or already existing business. The idea is that if your prospect is properly educated about your opportunity and products, that prospect is going to want to come on board.

One of the main premises behind Magnetic Sponsoring is attraction marketing, which means developing your business in a way that brings leads to you so your don’t have to chase them. The book talks about the importance of confidence and conviction when you’re prospecting by becoming an “alpha” leader. In every aspect of life leaders get followers. Magnetic Sponsoring teaches you how to become a leader, and does a very good job of changing minds.

As just mentioned, attraction marketing is one of the foundations of Magnetic Sponsoring, and the methods and techniques of attraction marketing are covered. Everything from positioning, to branding, the right mind set and finding the right target market is covered, along with other topics.

You’ll also find some very interesting information on how to advertise effectively for free or very low cost, and how to build an incoming cash flow that will keep your business healthy during the growth stages and after.

All in all the book is packed with information that is fresh and that can be used by anyone from a total newbie to a marketing veteran.

You will probably have to read it through a couple times though to make sure that you fully understand how to use and apply the methods that are taught in it, and to make sure that you haven’t missed anything. There is a TON of gold in there and it is easy to race onwards and not let things properly sink in.

There is a section on franchising an internet marketing business that is fascinating, but probably could have used a bit more fleshing out in terms of more explanations or a step-by-step strategy to follow. But I think that in spite of this, even this section has enough information in it that a determined marketer like you or I could set such a system up based on the Magnetic Sponsoring principles.

What I’m saying is that the Magnetic Sponsoring book is very worthwhile read. Mike Dillard’s claim is that in just ten days he can turn you into a Network Marketing star. That’s a pretty strong claim, but I think the book offers enough realistically usable and good, solid information, that it’s completely possible that it could happen that way. If you’re planning to read the book and put what you learn into action and work the program, then yes, I think the claim is valid. He can at least change your entire approach to building your business, and you will be left wondering why you hadn’t made these realizations on your own months or years ago.

Something you will learn through Magnetic Sponsoring is that people don’t care about your opportunity. Are you surprised? Don’t be. They care about finding solutions to their problems. Every opportunity has the potential for being that solution doesn’t it? Magnetic Sponsoring teaches you how to capitalize on the need for solutions to problems.

Understanding the 80/20 Rule

Ever heard of the 80/20 rule? Well, if you haven’t yet, you are going to now!

The 80/20 rule was first known as the Pareto principle. Basically, the idea behind it is that there is a “vital few and trivial many”. What this means is that 20 percent of something will be the driving force behind 80 percent of results. This principle or rule can be applied to just about anything.

For example, on a sports team, it’s the star players that are going to be scoring the most points and bringing in the wins. The other players, the ones that serve as back up, also contribute to the team’s success, but not nearly as much. There are always a few stars that contribute the most, and several back ups that contribute significantly less. This concept can be pointed directly at your network marketing business!

80/20 rules

The 80/20 rule can be applied to your Network Marketing business in a couple of different ways, and you should be aware of and make use of both. The idea here is to run your business like the pulled-together, organized expert that you are. And if you don’t feel quite like an expert yet, keep working at it!

First let’s look at the 80/20 rule as it applies to your downline. I bet you can already figure out where I’m going with this. Your downline is a resource. Your downline helps you grow your business. If you have 100 people in your downline, it’s a fairly sure bet that 20 of those people are going to account for about 80 percent of your business. 20% of your downline likely accounts for 80% of your income. And the other 80% accounts for only 20% of your income.

So what are the other 80 of your downline members up to? They’re working, too. But they may not have mastered what it means to be a top producer yet, so they aren’t bringing in the big results. They may never be star producers, but that doesn’t mean you should give up on them or kick them off the team. That only means that there is work to be done. Plus, these 80 downline members are essential for you to find your key 20!

With your top producers, don’t assume that they are fine and that they can take care of themselves and need no help or coaching. While they may be doing very well, it’s still your job to provide constant support, encouragement and training to them.

And what about the 80 percent that is lagging behind? Well, it’s time for you to kick things into high gear! First of all, remember that some people are going to be slow starters. It’s up to you to keep in touch with them and offer them as much training and support as possible. Remember that a slow starter today could be tomorrow’s star.

Next, you can apply the 80/20 rule to general work practices – of all the work you put in to your business only about 20% will account for 80% of your income. It is your responsibility to figure out and focus on the key 20%.

80/20 rules

For both you and your downline, it’s important to take the time to look at work activities and figure out what is working well, what could be working better, and what’s taking up valuable time and producing little, if any good results.

If you find work activities that are necessary, but that are holding you down because you’re not skilled at them, or you dislike doing them, what can you do to work smarter at them? Do you need to hire help? Often, by hiring someone to help you with tasks that should be helping, but aren’t, you can increase the overall productivity in your business and turn that task into one which makes a difference.

Now, when you find a work activity that has turned into a complete waste of time, and is definitely not in the top 20 percent of results-getting business activities, ask yourself why this is and whether you just need to dump the task and focus on things that are working well.

So to summarize, the 80/20 rule can be applied to your downline and your work habits and tasks.

Focus on that top 20 percent that is producing 80 percent of the results.

With your downline, see if you can help some of your slow-starters get a fire burning inside themselves to become stars. And with your work habits, take time to learn how to fine tune your tasks and work smarter, not harder.
