When you hear the word “coach”, what comes first into your mind? Do you picture a basketball team with a man/woman shouting out directions? Or perhaps a football team with a man/woman pacing to and fro and calling out the names of the players?

Coaching is no longer reserved to sports teams; it is now one of the key concepts in leadership and management. Why is coaching popular?

Coaching levels the playing field

Coaching is one of the six emotional leadership styles proposed by Daniel Goleman. Moreover, it is a behavior or role that leaders enforce in the context of situational leadership. As a leadership style, coaching is used when the members of a group or team are competent and motivated, but do not have an idea of the long-term goals of an organization. This involves two levels of coaching: team and individual. Team coaching makes members work together. In a group of individuals, not everyone may have nor share the same level of competence and commitment to a goal. A group may be a mix of highly competent and moderately competent members with varying levels of commitment. These differences can cause friction among the members. The coaching leader helps the members level their expectations. Also, the coaching leader manages differing perspectives so that the common goal succeeds over personal goals and interests. In a big organization, leaders need to align the staffs’ personal values and goals with that of the organization so that long-term directions can be pursued.

Coaching builds up confidence and competence

Individual coaching is an example of situational leadership at work. It aims to mentor one-on-one building up the confidence of members by affirming good performance during regular feedback; and increase competence by helping the member assess his/her strengths and weaknesses towards career planning and professional development. Depending on the individual’s level of competence and commitment, a leader may exercise more coaching behavior for the less-experienced members. Usually, this happens in the case of new staffs. The direct supervisor gives more defined tasks and holds regular feedback for the new staff, and gradually lessens the amount of coaching, directing, and supporting roles to favor delegating as competence and confidence increase.

Coaching promotes individual and team excellence

Excellence is a product of habitual good practice. The regularity of meetings and constructive feedback is important in establishing habits. Members catch the habit of constantly assessing themselves for their strengths and areas for improvement that they themselves perceive what knowledge, skills, and attitudes they need to acquire to attain team goals. In the process, they attain individually excellence as well. An example is in the case of a musical orchestra: each member plays a different instrument. In order to achieve harmony of music from the different instrument, members will polish their part in the piece, aside from practicing as an ensemble. Consequently, they improve individually as an instrument player.

Coaching develops high commitment to common goals

A coaching leader balances the attainment of immediate targets with long-term goals towards the vision of an organization. As mentioned earlier, with the alignment of personal goals with organizational or team goals, personal interests are kept in check. By constantly communicating the vision through formal and informal conversations, the members are inspired and motivated. Setting short-term team goals aligned with organizational goals; and making an action plan to attain these goals can help sustain the increased motivation and commitment to common goals of the members.

Coaching produces valuable leaders

Leadership by example is important in coaching. A coaching leader loses credibility when he/she cannot practice what he/she preaches. This means that a coaching leader should be well organized, highly competent is his/her field, communicates openly and encourages feedback, and has a clear idea of the organization’s vision-mission-goals. By vicarious and purposive learning, members catch the same good practices and attitudes from the coaching leader, turning them into coaching leaders themselves. If a member experiences good coaching, he/she is most likely to do the same things when entrusted with formal leadership roles.

Some words of caution though: coaching is just one of the styles of leadership. It can be done in combination with the other five emotional leadership styles depending on the profile of the emerging team. Moreover, coaching as a leadership style requires that you are physically, emotionally, and mentally fit most of the time since it involves two levels of coaching: individual and team. Your members expect you to be the last one to give up or bail out in any situation especially during times of crises. A coaching leader must be conscious that coaching entails investing time on each individual, and on the whole team. Moreover, that the responsibilities are greater since while you are coaching members, you are also developing future coaches as well.

More Leaders Or More Followers?

Let us take a look at this sentence “More Leaders or More Followers” from two different perspective – Internet Marketing and Network Marketing. Let’s start from Internet Marketing. In Internet Marketing, you definitely don’t need to have leaders, you just need to have as many as followers. Your followers will follow your blog, your newsletter, your steps and try to duplicate what you do to success.

In Internet Marketing, you market products or programs to particular niche and of course you don’t really need to have leaders. Try to read more about Internet Marketing and you hardly find an article talk about create leaders in Internet Marketing industry. We are talking about Apprentice or Joint Venture but not Leaders.

Any Duplication in Internet Marketing?

If you ask me this question, I would say “NO”. People who are expert in Internet Marketing really go through a hard way, spend thousands of dollars, time, trial and errors before achieving great success. Why do they want to duplicate their success? However, you may say “NO”, they are teaching you their secrets of success, their formula of earning money online etc. Yes, of course but ONLY IF you join their programs or buy their products. You paid to get their secrets, their formula and those valuable information. You really need to go through the same hard work and become a Leader by yourself in the end.

What about Network Marketing?

In Network Marketing, we need both Leaders and Followers. This is very special comparing to Internet Marketing because we will try the best to turn the Followers to Leaders. This is about Duplication in Network Marketing. The more leaders in your team, the more success you are. So, are you going to look for more leaders or more followers?

To attract more leaders to the team, firstly you must be a leader. Real leaders will always attract more leaders to the team. Real leaders will create more leaders in the team too. Therefore, if you really want to have massive success in Network Marketing industry, be Attractive! be a Leader!

Stop Bombard Me With Your Products!


There is a real conversation, chit chatting between me and a young friend at her age of 21. She suddenly “tells” me how her friends start to “promote” her their MLM products that she feels very annoying. She is using the word “tell” and “promote” but come to my ears with the tone she talks, it sounds “tells” => “complaint” and “promote” => “bombard”.

Don't Disturb Me

Friend A: Recently my friend keeps on telling me how good is the product she taking and how this product help to decrease her weight.. Really annoying! I already told her I don’t need this product but she  keeps telling me “it is a good start to try” and “product will speak for itself”!

Me: Is she your personal friend?

Friend A: Yes, my personal friend. Not only her but got some other friends also the same. The second sentence  already start to talk about their MLM product! They should let me notice their change and let me go and ask them. I didn’t really see they have any changes after taken MLM products.

Me: Haa.. If they are in this business, how can they wait until you realize their change. Of course they can’t wait to share with you.

Friend A: But I don’t like they do it this way. Keep asking me to try. I’m not interested at all. Also now the friends  gathering become product sharing. Really “s” “u” “c” “k” gathering!

Me: “S” “U” “C” “K” gathering?

Friend A: Suck gathering lah… Haa..

Me: Orrhhh~~ Haa…

Friend A: Why they are like that huh.. Is that because they must do in this way or they have not enough proper knowledge?

Me: I think firstly is because they are taught by doing or sharing in this way and also you are right, basically they don’t have proper knowledge in this industry.

Friend A: Then why they don’t learn proper way? Will you still make friends with them if they keeps on talking the same topic to you?

Me: Sometimes is not they don’t want to learn the proper way, just that their upline is doing so and they just follow what the upline teach them. If they are so new and see their upline is successful using the same way, they would just follow. If they stop pitching that is ok for me but if they still pitching me their products or business after I show no interest, I will avoid them too.

Friend A: I really not interested in the MLM products and business. The more they talk the more I don’t like.

Few things to learn from the conversation above:

1) No pitching to friends – Family and friends 100% don’t like that

2) Target to the correct people, don’t talk to people who not in need

3) People 100% don’t like to be sold, the more you don’t tell, the more they want to find out

And the most important lesson from the conversation is – This is one reason why people hate the word “MLM” so much although they never involve in this industry. They are being bombarded by their friends and they thought they have to do the same if they join this industry!

So, understand how this industry works is very important. To success in this industry without pitching to family and friends also possible as long as you know what are the 6 elements of success.

No.1 Reason Fail in Network Marketing


Being in Network Marketing quite some times and I notice the biggest challenge and the number 1 reason to fail in Network Marketing is on yourself. It’s YOU!

I’m sure all of us get very excited when joining a new Network Marketing opportunity. However, the excitement won’t last long. As I can see, most of the people just quit during their third month. Reason? Many, for example:

1) I’m too busy with my work, I don’t have time to work on this
2) I cannot get people to join me
3) The monthly subscription is too difficult for me, etc etc

I think “I cannot get people to join me” is the most crucial point, IF you can get people to join you easily within first or second month, I believe you won’t quit so soon. However, without effort putting in or if you are just too new in this industry, how could you expect to have immediate results?

Now, for newbie in Network Marketing, there are 3 types of person you would listen to:

1) People who are not in this industry
2) People who was in this industry but failed
3) Successful people in this industry

Most of the people would choose to listen to category 1 and 2. I’m not sure why but this is the fact. People who are not in this industry how could they give you true and fair view? And the purpose you join Network Marketing is to Success, don’t you? Then why to choose and listen to people who are not success themselves?

I bet you join a particular Network Marketing opportunity because you see some successful people there. If this is the case, I simply couldn’t understand why not choose to listen and get advice from those successful people? My facebook friend just share with me that he would choose to listen to both good and bad because we have 2 ears. Well, I would rather choose to follow advice of  successful people using my 2 ears so that I can success faster.

Again, I think this is about the MINDSET.

For my days in Network Marketing, I make myself contact my upline almost everyday so that I can do the correct way and duplicate the success. Network marketing is about duplication. Nothing so difficult, you just need to do what your success upline doing. So, my advice is, if you still want to success in this industry, change your MINDSET, join a good team full with positive energy and momentum.

How To Write Chinese Words At WordPress

All the while I’m doing English blogging and although I notice I couldn’t write Chinese words at my blog I didn’t really go into this topic and find the solution. However, few days ago when I want to create a new chinese blog, I have no choice but to find the solution for it. Basically I get few ways to write Chinese words at wordpress but I’m going to share with you the easiest and most effective ways which can be done within few minutes.

Solution 1 (For advance users who understand FTP)

If you know how to use FTP, then this is the fastest way to get it done.

Follow the steps below:

1) Find the wp-config.php file from your server
2) Download to your computer (desktop)
3) Open the file as notepad
4) Find and delete the following two codes:

5) Save it back to wp-config.php file
6) Upload to the server and replace the original file

Solution 2 (Without involving FTP – For normal users)

This is another way to solve the language problem without involving FTP and changing the code. Easy to follow and recommended if you are still new in blogging.

A) Login to your cpanel and go to phpMyAdmin (if you have more blogs host at same server, you will see all databases on the left).

B) Choose the database you want to change the language.

C) Go to
(1) wp_comments
(2) Structure
(3) Tick all the “Collation” shown something other than utf8_unicode_ci
(4) Click pencil icon

D) Change all the “Collation” to utf8_unicode_ci (the last one) and “Save”

E) Repeat the same for wp_links, wp_options, wp_postmeta, wp_posts etc at the colume (1)
F) Done! You can now post the Chinese character or other languages at your wordpress blog

How To Avoid The 3 Most Common Affiliate Mistakes

Affiliate marketing is one of the most effective and powerful ways of earning some money online. This program gives everybody a chance to make a profit through the Internet. Since these affiliate marketing programs are easy to join, implement and pays a commission on a regular basis, more an more people are now willing in this business.

However, like all businesses, there are lots of pitfalls in the affiliate marketing business. Committing some of the most common mistakes will cost the marketers a large portion taken from the profit they are making everyday. That is why it is better to avoid them than be regretful in the end.

Mistake number 1: Choosing the wrong affiliate

Many people want to earn from affiliate marketing as fast as possible. In their rush to be part of one, they tend to choose a bandwagon product. This is the kind of products that the program thinks is “hot”. They choose the product that is in demand without actually considering if the product appeals to them. This is not a very wise move obviously.

Since affiliate programs are very easy to join, you might be tempted to join multiples of affiliate programs to try and maximize the earnings you will be getting. Besides you may think that there is nothing wrong and nothing to lose by being part of many affiliate programs.

True, that is a great way to have multiple sources of income. However, joining multiple programs and attempting to promote them all at the same time will prevent you from concentrating on each one of them.

The result? The maximum potential of your affiliate program is not realized and the income generated will not exactly be as huge as you were thinking initially it would. The best way to get excellent result is by joining just one program that pays a 40% commission at least. Then give it your best effort by promoting your products enthusiastically. As soon as you see that it is already making a reasonable profit, then maybe you can now join another affiliate program.

The technique is to do it slowly but surely. There is really no need to rush into things, especially with affiliate marketing. With the way things are going, the future is looking real bright and it seems affiliate marketing will be staying for a long time too.

Mistake number 3: Not buying the product or using the service

As an affiliate, you main purpose is to effectively and convincingly promote a product or service and to find customers. For you to achieve this purpose, you must be able to relay to the customers that certain product and service. It is therefore difficult for you to do this when you yourself have not tried these things out. Thus, you will fail to promote and recommend them convincingly. You will also fail to create a desire in your customers to avail any of what you are offering.

Try the product or service personally first before you sign up as an affiliate to see if it is really delivering what it promises. If you have done so, then you are one of the credible and living testaments aware of its advantages and disadvantages. Your customers will then feel the sincerity and truthfulness in you and this will trigger them to try them out for themselves.

Many affiliate marketers makes these mistakes and are paying dearly for their actions. To not fall into the same situation they have been in, try to do everything to avoid making the same mistakes.

Time is the key. Take the time to analyze your marketing strategy and check if you are in the right track. If done properly, you will be able to maximize your affiliate marketing program and earn higher profits.
